PNGO issued a policy paper NGOs in Gaza Strip in Facing of External Funding Shortage

The Palestinian NGO Network (PNGO) issued a policy paper entitled “Non-Governmental Organizations in the Gaza Strip in face of External Funding Shortage”. The policy paper was released within the project of "Strengthening Democracy and Building the Capacity of NGOs" in partnership with Norwegian People's Aid (NPA).

The released policy paper is based on the results of a survey conducted by PNGO to assess the implications of funding shortage on the reality and role of NGOs, particularly PNGO members.

The policy paper reveals that Palestinian NGOs in the Gaza Strip are increasingly concerned about the shortage of external funding, which has been clearly declined in 2016 for oPt and Palestinian NGOs, resulting in worsening the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip.

The policy paper emphasizes that the funding shortage has a significant impact on various sectors. According to the policy paper, the funding shortage also impacted the NGOs operation and services they provide specifically in the successive crises in Gaza Strip.

The issued paper highlights the most important measures and procedures taken by some NGOs to address the funding shortage crisis and the main reasons behind the funding crisis.

It emphasizes the need for a comprehensive vision for civil society action and its national and societal role achieving a full independence from external aid, as well as the need to restore the community steadfast by mobilizing and investing in local resources to ensure that civil society continue in playing its role on national, democratic and developmental levels for promoting livelihoods resilience, resource sustainability and social mobilization.
