PWWSD's Statement on the latest Cabinet Resolutions Regarding Palestinian Women Rights

The Palestinian Working Woman Society for Development welcomes the recent Cabinet resolutions regarding rights of Palestinian women, announced by the Prime Minister, Dr. Rami Al-Hamdallah, in conjunction with the celebration of the International Women's Day. The resolutions entailed:

- Women's right to apply for passports for their children,

- Women's right to create bank accounts for their children,

- Women's right to transfer their children to different schools,

- Appointing the President to issue a law resolution amending the Penal Code No. 16 of 1960, by not considering murders based on the so-called family honor part of the lenient punishments, and revoking Article 308, which enables rapists to escape punishment by marrying the victim.

PWWSD affirms that these decisions are the result of the ongoing effort and struggle of civil society and women movements, and stresses the need to consider women in Palestine equal to men in rights and duties before the law and that rights are indivisible, that women must obtain their rights and full equality.

PWWSD thanks and extends its appreciation for the efforts of Palestinian women in all locations, women rights activists, women and feminist organizations, and the social movement (Irada), who signed petitions, participated in demonstrations, organized advocacy and lobbying campaigns, contributed to drafting laws and broke barriers to achieve full equality for Palestinian women before the law.
