PNGO supports UNRWA employees demands and calls upon UNRWA Administration to undo its decisions

The Palestinian NGOs Network (PNGO) is highly concerned by the recently taken decisions and measures by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) in the Gaza Strip to terminate the contracts of 100 emergency employees and transfer other 900 employees to the part-time system by the end of this year.

PNGO accordingly calls upon the international community and the UN General Assembly to abide by legal and moral responsibility by providing financial assistance to UNRWA's core programmes,  to tackle the staggering financial crisis facing UNRWA because of the US cut of financial contributions  to the agency this year in an attempt to liquidate the Palestinian refugees issue.

UNRWA administration procedures and measures do not deter the US plans to liquidate the Palestinian refugee issue, but on the contrary provide an opportunity to liquidate the Palestinian people's rights and in particular the United Nations General Assembly Resolution 194 which guarantees the rights of the Palestinian refugees who were dispossessed of their homeland and property to return to their land, although UNRWA was created in the aftermath of the 1948 war to provide assistance and protection for the Palestinian refugees.

UNRWA rapid measures and procedures raise many questions and indicate that they were taken in advance and without any attempts to avoid them.

The Palestinian NGOs Network stands by the UNRWA Staff Union and supports their inalienable and legitimate rights, and calls upon the agency to reverse its decisions that worsen the already deteriorated living conditions in the Gaza Strip caused by the 12-year long blockade imposed by the Israeli occupation.

PNGO calls on all national and political parties to act on all levels to support the just rights of UNRWA employees and liquidate Israel-US plan and work together with the international community to help to cover UNRWA's budget deficit.
