PNGO Health Sector warns of grave consequences of fuel shortage at Gaza hospitals and health facilities

The Health Sector of the Palestinian NGOs Network warns of crucial consequences due to the severe shortage of fuel to power generators in hospitals and health facilities in light of the aggravated electricity crisis and power outage for long hours.

The Israeli occupation closure of the commercial crossing Kerem Shalom ‘Karm Abu Salem’ and imposition of restriction on the entry of all essential material including fuel into the Gaza Strip, in addition to the increasing number of wounded and the lack of sufficient funding for the Palestinian health sector to purchase fuel, consequently posed serious risks on the health situation in the Gaza Strip and reduced hospitals and health facilities capacities to cope with the needs of the population for medical care and interventions.

The Israeli occupation, by imposing such measures against the Gaza Strip, violates all international treaties and conventions, foremost of which is right to health care and medical interventions as one of the basic human rights.

Therefore, we call upon the international parties to pressure on the Israeli occupation authorities to completely lift the blockade and allow the entry of all material and supplies into the Gaza Strip and ensure free and safety movement of patients and medical crews into and out of the Gaza Strip.

We also call to provide urgent support for the health sector, particularly with medicines and medical and fuel supplies, to enable hospital and health facilities to carry out their tasks and provide medical treatment and health care services to the population.
