PNGO stresses the right to hold municipal and local councils’ elections in the Gaza Strip

The Palestinian NGOs Network (PNGO) stresses the right for all parties to respect the right of citizens to elect their representatives in the various bodies and institutions as a basic right guaranteed by the Palestinian law and various international treaties and conventions.

PNGO regrets the way the new mayor of Gaza was appointed in violation of the adopted principles in holding elections to ensure everyone’s participation and respect of democratic principles.

PNGO stresses its firm position on holding elections at all levels, including the municipal and local council elections. It also stresses that the appointment of Gaza’s Mayor should not be a precedent for depriving the citizens of their right to democratic participation.

PNGO calls to continue and intensify efforts to end the internal division and unify the Palestinian institutions and enable citizens to exercise their political, economic and social rights without restrictions.
