As the aggression on Gaza continues, Dr. Yaghi warns of the spread of infectious diseases and Corona virus in shelters

Gaza:

Dr. Aed Yaghi, Director of Palestinian Medical Relief Society in Gaza, said that the Gaza Strip is experiencing a humanitarian catastrophe as a result of the continuous aggression on the Gaza Strip, which has so far left 232 martyrs, more than 1900 wounded, and more than 50 thousand people seeking refuge in shelters. Daily living activities have been put on hold and various services have been interrupted, including the closure of many primary health care centers due to inability of the medical staff to reach their workplace as a result of the continued bombing all over Gaza Strip.

Dr. Yaghi pointed out that the PMRS has mobilized a number of mobile medical teams to the shelters located in Gaza and the North governorates. PMRS teams have provided primary health care to the people in the shelters in a bid to alleviated their suffering at a time UNRWA, which is supposed to be in charge of these shelters, has failed to assume its full responsibilities of providing protection and humanitarian needs to the tens of thousands of people who have sought refuge at the shelters and who are living under difficult health and humanitarian conditions.

During his visit to the shelter center at Khalifa bin Zayed School in northern Gaza, where more than 5,000 people have been staying for 7 days, Dr. Yaghi warned against the spread of infectious diseases and skin diseases. He also expressed his concern of a new wave of Corona virus in light of the heavy crowding he noticed during his field visit in shelters and the absence of hygiene supplies and personal protection equipment.

Dr. Yaghi has appealed to the international community and international institutions to work urgently to stop the aggression on the Gaza Strip and help provide a safe humanitarian pathway for aid and staff working in the relief and humanitarian field as well as the provision of medicine, hygiene supplies and personal protection equipment.
