PNGO Calls for an Immediate Intervention to Lift the Israeli Blockade imposed on the Gaza Strip

In a press statement, released on Tuesday, The Palestinian NGOs Network in Gaza, (PNGO) denounced the continued Israeli closure of the Beit Hanoun "Erez" crossing in northern Gaza Strip and called for an immediate intervention to reopen the crossing for free movement of Palestinians and lift all other restrictions, imposed by the Israeli occupation, on the Gaza Strip.

PNGO pointed out that the closure of Erez has increasingly deepened the socio-economic crisis, across the Gaza Strip, as it has blocked movement of ordinary people, especially those working inside Israel.

PNGO noted that the Israel-imposed closure has badly impacted the living conditions of various segments of the communities in the Gaza Strip and specially workers, who have been deprived of moving to workplaces, inside Israel.

Amidst this situation, PNGO emphasizes on the need for lifting the Israeli siege, allow free movement of people and goods in both directions and end the Israeli restrictions imposed on  all products’ export and import.

Food insecurity, high rates of both poverty and unemployment in Gaza have reached unprecedented levels, due to the Israel-imposed blockade, along with frequent Israeli occupations attacks on the region, over the past time period, the statement noted.

Last but not least, PNGO appeals to the international community to immediately intervene by exerting pressure on the Israeli occupation authorities, so that the latter would reopen border crossings and allow free movement of both people and goods, from and to Gaza.
