Since the beginning of 2026, Israeli occupation forces have continued their escalating campaign, resulting in an increasing number of killed and injured civilians. This escalation reflects a systematic pattern of deliberate mass killing of civilians in the Gaza Strip—whether inside their homes, in displacement tents, in temporary shelters, or while approaching so-called “yellow zones” (areas of deployment of Israeli occupation forces).
Monitoring and documentation conducted by Al-Dameer indicate that 141 civilians were killed during the period from 1 January 2026 to 31 January 2026. Among them were 35 children, 20 women, 14 members of the civil police, and 3 media workers affiliated with the Egyptian Committee, in addition to a fisherman and a medical doctor. These killings occurred in the context of ongoing Israeli attacks and grave violations of international humanitarian law, as well as the continued perpetration of the crime of genocide against the civilian population.
Field information shows that the 141 victims were distributed as follows:
- 33 civilians were killed by direct gunfire outside deployment zones, including 5 children and 5 women.
- 29 civilians were killed inside areas classified as Israeli military deployment zones (within the “yellow line”), including 3 children and one woman.
- 21 civilians were killed as a result of the targeting and shelling of residential homes without prior warning, including 5 children and 6 women.
- 15 civilians were killed as a result of the targeting and shelling of displacement tents in humanitarian areas in Al-Mawasi of Khan Younis and the central governorate, including 8 children and one woman.
- 3 civilians were killed after being targeted inside shelters (educational schools), including one girl.
- 14 civilians were killed as a result of the shelling of a police center, including 4 women.
- 8 civilians were killed due to the collapse of homes previously damaged by earlier bombardments, including 3 children and 3 women.
- 3 media workers were killed following the direct targeting of civilian vehicles.
- 11 civilians died as a result of extreme cold and harsh living conditions, including 10 children and one woman.
- 4 civilians were killed as a result of the targeting of civilian workshops while they were present at their workplaces.
This escalation comes despite the announcement of a ceasefire on 13 October 2025. Since that date, more than 523 civilians have been killed, including 270 children and women, underscoring the continuation of a policy of systematic targeting of civilians.
These findings reflect the ongoing direct targeting of civilians, including children, women, and journalists, and demonstrate a clear pattern of grave violations amounting to war crimes and crimes against humanity, amid alarming international silence and a persistent failure to provide protection for civilians.
Al-Dameer affirms that what is occurring in the Gaza Strip does not constitute isolated incidents, but rather a systematic policy aimed at undermining civilian life and forcibly displacing the population, which necessitates urgent international action and legal accountability for the leaders of the occupation for these crimes.
Accordingly, Al-Dameer Association for Human Rights calls upon the international community, the UN Security Council, the United Nations, and the High Contracting Parties to the Fourth Geneva Convention to uphold their legal and moral responsibilities, to take immediate action to halt the crime of genocide in the Gaza Strip in all its forms, to adopt all effective measures to protect Palestinian civilians, to ensure that Israeli occupation forces comply with international law and the rulings of the International Court of Justice, and to guarantee accountability and prosecution for crimes committed against the Palestinian people, including the adoption of binding and effective measures to put an end to all forms of crimes against civilians.
