Dr. Haidar Abdul shafi center for culture and development is looking very serious at the deterioration of the economic and living conditions in Gaza Strip as a result of 10 years of prolonged siege and aggressive military operations in which the infrastructure and productive facilities have been destroyed, which led to an unexpected rise in poverty and unemployment rats and was turned into a large prison.
The center stressed on the latest UN warnings and the statement signed by seven UN rapporteurs which reflect the gravity of the situation, and confirms that Gaza Strip has become unsuitable place to live, where the power outages crisis and the electricity is available for not more than three hours a day, beside the Slow reconstruction process. As well as the pollution of the sea water, where pouring large quantities of waste reach to 108 million liters per day, which led to pollution accompanied by salinity and pollution of water for drink by at least 90% and also accompanied by pollution of the environment. All of this from the nature of the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
The deterioration of the situation has recently aggravated due to the procedures taken by the Palestinian Authority towards the Palestinian citizens in Gaza Strip, such as reducing the travel of patients for tratment, the crisis of shortage medicines and medical supplies, as well as the early retirement of employees and the discounts on salaries for the general staff. These procedures deepened the crisis in Gaza Strip. As well as many international organizations reduce aid and its various relief and development programs, like the World Food Program (WFP), which has reduced aid to only for 6,000 families.
The Center is calling on the United Nations to act at the international level to impose procedures and mechanisms on the occupation to end the siege and allow free movement of goods and people , and also calling on the internal Palestinian conflict parties to end the division immediately and to re-form a national unity government by preparing for a comprehensive elections for the presidency and the National and Legislative Council in order to reconstruct the Palestinian political system on the democracy and partnership basis.
The Center appreciates Egypt effective role and its serious efforts to alleviate the humanitarian burden on Gaza Strip and considers this role to be an effective contribution to strengthen the steadfastness of our nation and ensure a decent living for them.
It is the time that the human conscience act to stop the systematic and accelerated deterioration of Gaza Strip nation’s living conditions and to stop all steps aimed at pushing Gaza strip into catastrophic and difficult situations. This is the international institutions and the world leader’s voices in its various institutions and organizations responsibility to commit Israel to respect the Fourth Geneva Convention and end this unjust collective punishment by the occupation against our nation in Gaza Strip.
