Background: UNMAS
United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS) is a division of the Office of Rule of Law and Security Institutions (OROLSI) in the Department of Peace Operations (DPKO). UNMAS is mandated by the United Nations General Assembly (RES/68/72) to ensure an effective, proactive and coordinated response to the problem posed by a wide range of explosive hazards. Legislative mandates also recognize UNMAS technical expertise in responding to threats posed by unsecured and unsafe conventional weapons and ammunition stockpiles. As an office within DPKO, UNMAS supports peacekeeping and special political missions in accordance with Security Council mandates.
Functional Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Head of Project Unit, the Information Management Associate will support the Information Management System for Mine Action (IMSMA) for UNMAS Palestine, and responsible for all assigned tasks as follows:
- Maintain the Programme’s IMSMA database and its archive
- Provide support in the installation of the IMSMA system, and making sure that the overall system is operational and meets the operational needs of the programme;
- Provide remote support to new IMSMA users and UNMAS programmes
- Perform monthly audit of mine action information to ensure data completeness, integrity and quality; Verify and record and perform regular quality assurance all field data from implementers into the IMSMA database;
- Serve as the focal point for survey and mapping data from mission GIS and mine action stakeholders;
- Assist in the maintenance of programme reporting tools on available dangerous areas, casualty and clearance data;
- Update the programme risk assessment tracker and complete risk assessment data import on a regular basis;
- Produce statistics and reports from the Mine Action data, when requested.;
- Engage with Mine Action partners to obtain information;
- Review and improve data collecting forms when necessary;
- Prepare timely monthly reports and statistics as required by the programme, under guidance of the Chief of Mine Action Programme (CMAP).
- Complete additional tasks as assigned by the Programme CMAP;
- Prepare and print informative maps with mine action and other available data;
- Regularly liaise with the Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining
- (GICHD) focal point to ensure all IMS workflows are accurate and updated.
Other Responsibilities:
- Assist with IT and other general computer related issues
- Assist with Database training and technical assistance to implementing partners and external stakeholders where necessary;
- Create photo catalogue from received photos from mine action activities;
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Programme CMAP
