Job purpose summary:

The Market Researcher Field Assistant will support the project team in performing field activities as part of the project and specifically the Project’s Market Researcher, as the project aims to improve the livelihoods of youth and farmers in the Gaza Strip by enhancing their chances to access the market in Gaza. The Market Researcher Field Assistant will provide effective support in data collection with the purpose of promoting high-value crop value chains by interventions throughout the value chain for perennials and annuals. 

Job Responsibilities:

As part of the project, the Market Researcher Field Assistant will help the project management in developing and producing field visit plans for the three-value chain supported by the project. Under the supervision of the project manager, the Market Researcher Field Assistant will be directly involved in implementing field activities corresponding to the targeted value chains and other field visits planned as part of the project, where the main responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Develop data collection tools and procedures for sector-specific interventions;
  • Assist the project team in collecting data related to examining the social and environmental aspects of each value chain;
  • Assist the project team in collecting data related to examining the difficulties encountered in providing/obtaining facilitative services;
  • Assist the project team in collecting data related to examining potential hazards and opportunities along the value chain;
  • Assist the project team in collecting data related to examining the potential for enhanced technology to reduce pollution along the value chain;
  • Assist the project team in collecting data related to examining market size, sales volume, and market integration/segmentation within the targeted value chains;
  • Assist the project team in collecting data related to examining policy concerns that have an impact on the selected value chains;
  • Any other activities, responsibilities, or particular assignments assigned by the project manager.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

Interested applicants should have at least the following competencies: 

  • In-depth understanding of the agricultural sector's stakeholders
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and networking skills
  • Extensive experience establishing and implementing effective strategies, business plans, and budget management
  • Demonstrated ability to form successful relationships with a variety of partners
  • Demonstrated ability to operate in a multidisciplinary and cross-cultural setting
  • Good English language skills 
  • Excellent knowledge of computer programs with experience in statistical programs or other related software (preferred).
  • The ability to unite farmers and stakeholders into groups.
  • Adhere to organizational policies and procedures, respect organizational principles at all times, and maintain organizational confidentiality.

Required Academic Qualifications and Experience:

Education: 

  • Bachelor degree in economic studies, business administration or a relevant field. (or equivalent combination of formal training and experience e.g., in marketing, economics, management, business development etc.). An MBA, community development, gender mainstreaming, with an emphasis on economic empowerment would be an added value.

Experience:

  • At least 3 years of relevant experience in field work and data collection.

Language:

  • Arabic & English

Others: 

  • Extensive filed work and ability to commute between project implementation sites
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Good knowledge of the context of vulnerable areas in Gaza Strip;
  • Working in development with special emphasis on socio-economic empowerment issues with evidence, scalability and sustainability.
  • Excellent computer skills especially MS office. 
  • Proven ability to work in a multidisciplinary team
