The agricultural sector in the PNGO calls for an international action to pressure the occupation to stop opening floodgates on the Gaza Strip

The agricultural sector in the Palestinian NGO Network (PNGO) strongly condemns the Israeli occupation crime of opening the floodgates causing the flooding in several areas in the South and Central Gaza Strip. Large number of houses and hundreds of agricultural dunums has been affected with the flood water.

The agricultural sector in PNGO indicates that the Israeli occupation deliberately opened the floodgates east of Deir al-Balah and Khan Yunis several times, flooding dozens of homes, hundreds of agricultural dunums, and causing damage to agricultural crops, infrastructure and equipment in that area.

The sector holds the Israeli occupation authorities fully responsible for these direct and indirect losses as a result of these attacks. It calls on the international community and its humanitarian and human rights organizations to intervene immediately to stop these Israeli attacks on farmers and their land, to provide them with protection, and to ensure that these attacks are not repeated.

It also calls for the provision of mechanisms to compensate farmers for the losses they are exposed to and to strengthen their steadfastness in those areas that are of great importance, especially as they represent the main food basket for the Gaza Strip.
