A Statement on Education in the Gaza Strip
The Education Sector in the Palestinian NGOs Network and the Palestinian Education Coalition in the Gaza Strip warn of deteriorating the education situation in the Governmental Schools in the Gaza Strip as a result of the lack of an operational budget for 397 governmental schools in the Gaza Strip, that would adversely affect the quality of education services provided to (253,263) students of both genders. Thus, higher dropout rates would occur.
Affirming on the right to education for all Palestinian children wherever they are as it's an inherent and guaranteed right in all laws by the education Sector in the Network and the Education Coalition, they call on all Palestinian factions to neutralize the educational process from any conflict resulted from the Political division.
The Palestinian Education Coalition and the Education sector of PNGO Network call the Ministry of Education to find effective mechanisms to ensure the necessary financial and logistical support for the continuation of the educational process in all governmental schools in the Gaza Strip, and for ceasing the deterioration in the educational situation to save the destiny of 253,265 children of both genders so they can continue their education and would get a high-quality education through which they can get the best knowledge and skills. Thus, they become citizens who positively contribute to the development of their society.
The Education Coalition and the Education Sector of PNGO Network also recall the caution launched previously about reducing UNRWA support, which would compel it to reduce and cease its basic humanitarian services provided to the Palestinian Refugees in the Palestinian camps, including education services. This reflects the aggravation of crisis and its influences upon all Palestinian children and the right to education of more than half a million Palestinian children, living in the Gaza Strip and attending schools there.
The two parties call on donors to provide the necessary funding for the continuation of the educational process in the Gaza Strip, and to take the urgent intervention as well in order to ensure that the educational situation in the Gaza Strip does not deteriorate so that the future of those children would be saved.
