Atfaluna Society for Deaf Children expresses its deep sadness and condolences on the martyrdom of the deaf youth Tahreer Wahba, 18 years old, who is one of its sons. Tahreer died on the 23rd, April 2018 out of his wounds, after being gunshot in the head by Israeli forces while peacefully protesting in the Great Return Marches.
Tahreer is from a humble family living in Tal al-Sultan in Rafah City in the southern of Gaza Strip. Tahreer joined Atfaluna school in 2007, he received sponsorships to support his educational needs.
The little child considered Atfaluna as his safe place, where he started to discover a new world full of potentials through communicating with others using sign language. Tahreer could express his feelings and ambitions. He loved his school, teachers, and peers.
Tahreer couldn’t hear the sounds around him, when he was gunshot in the head by a bullet that settled in his heat till he died. He was gunshot for no reason, other than peacefully protesting to call for his right of return. The killing of the deaf youth Tahreer violates all the international conventions that state the rights of persons with disabilities.
Atfaluna Society for Deaf Children deplores the targeting of persons with disabilities by Israeli occupation, that caused injuries among 450 persons with disabilities causing new disabilities of 21 amputations cases in their upper and lower parts of the body, and the martyrdom of 44 persons three of them are persons with disabilities.
Atfaluna calls all devoted people around the world to support persons with disabilities and protect their rights from the Israeli violations.
