Women's Affairs Center concludes training on "Forms of Gender Based Violence and Means to Reduce It"

Women's Affairs Center (WAC) concludes 20-hour training sessions on "Forms of Gender Based Violence and Means to Reduce It" with participation of 50 male and female university graduates from different governorates of Gaza Strip within the framework of "Promoting Respect and Protection of Women’s Human Rights in the Gaza Strip" project, funded by Trocaire.

The project generally aims at raising awareness of both men and women in Gaza on issues related to gender, gender equality, women's rights, and violence against women. It also aims to contribute to promoting respect and protection to the rights of marginalized men and women and those who are vulnerable to human rights' violations. A number of participants in the training will be selected to conduct awareness workshops for household men and women in marginalized areas in all governorates.

Samar Al Dreamly, Media Program Coordinator at WAC, stressed on the significance of this training to the empowerment of male and female university graduates in these topics; modification of prevailing stereotypes about women and their traditional roles; and contribution to the reduction of GBV through various media outlets.
Participants stressed on the importance of training to enhance their training skills in the field of women's rights and issues of GBV, so that they would be able to apply these skills professionally, especially in the awareness workshops to be held to inform household men and women on procedures of taking legal actions to solve various problems.

They also agreed on the need to correct some misconceptions about women and gender issues so that women are capable of participating in all walks of life; they also called for the activation of role of media in improving the image of women and supporting and advocating their legitimate rights.
