Women's Affairs Center in Gaza Publishes Issue No. 63 of Al Ghaidaa Women Magazine

The key file of issue no. 63 of Al Ghaidaa magazine is entitled, "Achievements of Youths in Gaza Despite Tragic Circumstances". The issue sheds light on a number of success stories and bright models for young people in the Gaza Strip who challenged all obstacles and managed to achieve their ambitions and dreams.

Samar Al Dreamly, Media Coordinator at WAC and Editor of the magazine, stresses that the key file of this issue is important and unique as it tackles topics highlighting the bright side of life in Gaza, such as the accomplishments of Gazan youth despite the ongoing siege, political division, and occupation, not to mention the other dire and tragic circumstances Gaza Strip is facing.

The issue opens with an article entitled, "On Youth International Day" which includes statistics related to youth and unemployment; it states that unemployment rate has increased among young males and females in the Gaza Strip to amount to 61.2%.

Some reports introduce innovative ideas from Gaza. For example, five young women invented a prototype of a wheelchair operating with voice commands. In addition, a team of distinguished engineers were able to transform wave movement into renewable energy.

The issue also includes a poll about the aspirations of youths in Gaza. The poll gave two choices: find a job or travel abroad by 2019.

A different report talks about the lives of male and female artists who became creative in various industries. Such as Mahmoud Zandahm, an artist who manufactures pieces of art imitating Palestinian heritage, and the couple Mahmoud and Nariman who create decorative candles in order to break the routine and provide income for their family.

The interview of this issue is with Ma'moon Sweedan, Advisor to the President of the Palestinian National Authority for Youth Affairs who pinpointed the weakness of the official and civil role in light of absence of a unified vision for Palestinian youth.

The investigation of the issue addresses the obsession of immigration, which is haunting Gazans so as to escape from life in the besieged Strip.

Al-Ghaidaa Scope sheds light on the work of the legal clinic at Women's Affairs Center, which received nearly 800 cases in three years to promote legal awareness and legal representation of women in marginalized areas.

Al-Ghaida Cultural Corner sheds light on the dynamic women's football teams in the West Bank whereas women's football teams in Gaza Strip are still neglected since Gaza clubs are not officially endorsed for playing.

The magazine includes a summary in English, and around 1000 copies were disseminated to various civil society organizations and international and media institutions.

The issue has also been published on WAC social media pages and website so that the concerned people can access it.
