Atfaluna Society for Deaf Children started implementing a vital humanitarian project

Atfaluna Society for Deaf Children (ASDC), in partnership with Save the Children international, started implementing a vital humanitarian project aimed at providing inclusive emergency support to children and adults with and without disabilities affected by the ongoing conflict in Gaza. The project is funded by Save the Children’s - Children Emergency Fund and will be implemented between April and August 2025.

The project, titled "Provision of Inclusive Emergency Interventions to Conflict-Affected Population from Persons with and without Disabilities," targets over 800 individuals directly and many more indirectly through protection, psychosocial support (PSS), rehabilitation, and accessible service delivery.

Key interventions include:

  • Emergency Psychosocial Support (PSS): 500 children and 300 adults will receive structured PSS sessions to enhance mental health and emotional resilience.
  • Assistive Devices & Rehabilitation: 100 individuals will benefit from devices such as hearing aids, eyeglasses, and wheelchairs.
  • Accessibility Upgrades: Audits and enhancements will be carried out in displacement shelters to ensure access for individuals with physical, sensory, and cognitive disabilities.
  • Participants have shared how these interventions are impacting their lives.

Another participant, Lina added:

“We really enjoyed it. For a moment, we felt like we escaped the war. These kinds of activities lift us out of the depression we’re living in.”

The project also includes child protection awareness campaigns, safe identification and referral (SIR) services, and the distribution of emergency in-kind support such as essential hygiene materials. Monitoring and accountability are central to the project, with both SCI and Atfaluna.

As Gaza faces ongoing humanitarian challenges, this partnership marks an important effort to provide tailored, inclusive support.
