The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea and UNICEF have joined forces to support the well-being of children in the Gaza Strip through the project “Resilience for Children+.” This USD 10 million partnership aims to address the urgent and deepening needs of children and their parents in the ongoing crisis.
The project is part of the broader “Resilience for Children+” initiative, a Republic of Korea Multisectoral Humanitarian Assistance Programme that supports vulnerable children and families in different countries.
In the Gaza Strip, the project will benefit hundreds of thousands of children and their families by restoring access to essential services in education, health, and water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH). In the education sector, 12,000 children from grades 1 to 12 and 500 school staff will receive learning materials and psychosocial support. Ten schools will be rehabilitated to provide inclusive, safe, and accessible learning environments for all students. In the area of health and nutrition, 150,000 internally displaced people (IDPs), including children and women, will have access to lifesaving primary healthcare through expanded services at fixed sites and mobile outreach teams operating in newly accessible areas, where health infrastructure has been severely damaged. Meanwhile, in the WASH sector, 200,000 people will benefit from improved access to safe, equitable, and resilient water and sanitation services across communities, schools, and health facilities, an essential step toward disease prevention and safeguarding dignity.
“This contribution comes at a crucial time for children and families in Gaza, whose lives and futures continue to be ravaged by conflict,” said Ms. Jean Gough, UNICEF Special Representative in the State of Palestine. “We are deeply grateful to the Government and people of the Republic of Korea for their unwavering support. Together, we are working to restore hope and access to the basic services for every child.”
Over the years, the Republic of Korea and UNICEF have built a strong and enduring partnership in promoting the humanitarian-development-peace (HDP) nexus.
"Through our partnership with UNICEF, we are working to ensure that Palestine's most vulnerable children receive the essential services they need. This initiative underscores Korea's steadfast support for the Palestinian people and our dedication to creating positive change through education, healthcare, and safe water access," said Mr. Jonghan Park, Director-General, Development Cooperation Bureau, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea.
This new phase of collaboration reflects UNICEF and the Republic of Korea’s shared commitment to delivering sustained, impactful assistance to the most vulnerable children and communities.
