Lead Assistant

Position Title: Type 2 Lead Assistant

Reports To: Type 2 Lead (technical), Medical Coordinator (operational)

Location: T2 Hospital

Main Purpose

Assist and support the Type 2 Lead in the coordination, implementation, and monitoring of hospital activities, by assuming some delegated tasks and responsibilities, and by having personal oversight of defined departments, to facilitate delivery of quality medical care, across the hospital.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist T2 Lead with planning and implementation of hospital activities to ensure the smooth and efficient delivery of healthcare services
  • Adopt a quality and compliance lens in order to maintain continuity in the standard of care in the Type 2.  
  • Coordinate and supervise the implementation of protocols, procedures, and standards, based on hospital objectives, and provide technical support when needed.
  • Support and participate in the planning and supervising of training, evaluation, development, and communication with the hospital medical staff in order to improve staff capabilities.
  • Oversee Paediatrics, Laboratory, and Radiology Departments.
  • Support the Type 2 Lead, in coordinating the day-to-day hospital activities, attending ward rounds, ensuring areas are prepared for partner organisations e.g. MoH Clinics and the Blood Drive, monitoring staffing levels and supplies.
  • In close coordination with the Laboratory Supervisor, supervise laboratory outputs to ensure samples and collected correctly and results are provided on time.
  • Implement impartial conflict resolution skills during patient, staff conflicts.
  • In absence of Type 2 Lead, or as delegated by Type 2 lead, represent in clinical and supervisory meetings, during visits from partner organisations, and key stakeholders, including the Ministry of Health (MoH), PMU, INGOs, and local NGOs.
  • Assist the Type 2 Lead in the completion of the bi-weekly submission of the Sit Rep.
  • Assist in the continued development and updating of SOP’s, emergency preparedness and contingency planning with maintaining standard and regulations  and potentially participate in surveys or inspections
  • Flag protection cases to T2 Lead/ MEDCO after provision of medical management and PFA if available, whilst maintaining patient confidentiality.
  • In the absence of the Type 2 Lead, assume responsibility for all related tasks and duties, with support of the Deputy Medical Coordinator, and the Medical Coordinator.
  • This is a new role, and responsibilities may evolve as the mission grows and develops. We appreciate flexibility as we refine the scope of this position to best support our objectives

Education:
  • Medical or Nursing Degree
  • Proficient in English Language
  • Post graduate degree will be an added advantage.
Experience
  • Previous experience working in a leadership/ Managerial Role.
  • Commitment to humanitarian work.
  • Flexibility in adapting to different situations.
  • Ability to work effectively in an international team environment.
Language: English Essential

Essential computer literacy (word, excel, internet)

Desirable:

  • Experience working in UKMED or other NGOs
  • Strong results orientation.
The work of UKMED is characterized by great flexibility and mobility. This is all the truer as this position can evolve over time and the imperatives of the Clinic. As a result, the employee may be required to perform other duties and other duties on the UKMED project in GAZA.
Any breach is punishable by disciplinary measures.
