Al Mezan Center: 16 Palestinians Killed and 50 Injured in 24 Hours Amid Escalating Humanitarian Crisis

Al Mezan Center for Human Rights strongly condemns the continued crimes committed by the Israeli occupation forces in the Gaza Strip, and the escalating attacks targeting civilians and displaced persons in residential buildings, shelters, tents, and civilian gatherings. These attacks have resulted in the killing of 16 Palestinians and the injury of 50 others since Tuesday and up to the issuance of this statement, amid the continued deterioration of the humanitarian situation and the denial of access to essential medicines and medical supplies. Al Mezan warns of the grave consequences of these ongoing crimes on the lives and safety of civilians, particularly children, women, patients, and displaced persons, as the health system’s ability to respond to mounting needs continues to deteriorate.

According to information received from the field, at approximately 12:50 p.m. on Tuesday, 29 September 2026, Israeli occupation forces opened fire towards Salah Al-Din Street, east of Deir Al-Balah in the central Gaza Strip, killing one Palestinian. At approximately 3:30 a.m. on the same day, Israeli forces fired several missiles at a residential apartment in Al-Batoul Building, near Al-Lababidi Intersection in Al-Nasr neighborhood, west of Gaza City, killing two Palestinians and injuring others.

At approximately 1:45 p.m., Israeli warplanes bombed a group of civilians at Halawa Camp, near Abu Hussein School in the Al-Fakhoura area of Jabalia, northern Gaza Strip. The attack killed four Palestinians, most of whose bodies were torn apart. A woman also succumbed to injuries sustained in an earlier attack in the Al-Mawasi area of Khan Younis. At approximately 4:11 p.m., an Israeli reconnaissance aircraft targeted the rooftop of a house near Tamraz Station in the Al-Tuffah area, east of Gaza City, killing one Palestinian.

Israeli forces also continued firing from advancing military vehicles towards the eastern neighborhoods of northern Gaza Strip, near American School Street and the northern areas of Beit Lahia, as well as towards areas east of Gaza City. Israeli forces further shelled areas east of Deir Al-Balah, north of Al-Bureij Refugee Camp, and south of Khan Younis with artillery.

(M.H.), a resident of Al-Shuja’iyya neighborhood, east of Gaza City, stated:

“I have five children, my wife, and my grandchildren, and we live in a dilapidated house. Since yesterday, the shelling and tank fire directed at our homes have continued, increasing our fear, especially for the children. During the night, the shelling and gunfire continued, and the sounds were so loud that it felt as though they were inside our homes. We were forced to leave the area under fire and move towards Tal Al-Hawa, west of Gaza City, to the home of our relatives, fearing a ground incursion as it happened in previous times. We live in constant fear, moving from one place to another, with nowhere safe to go.”

During the early morning hours of Wednesday, 30 September 2026, at approximately 3:35 a.m., Israeli military aircraft targeted a residential apartment belonging to the Abd Al-Aal family on Al-Wehda Street, next to Al-Shifa Hospital, killing a woman and injuring several Palestinians. At approximately 9:17 a.m. on the same day, a tent near Dream Palace Hall in Al-Mawasi, Khan Younis, was targeted, resulting in several injuries.

At approximately 12:25 p.m. on the same day, Israeli occupation forces carried out an attack against civilians by targeting a small bus attached to another vehicle near Carrefour Mall in Tal Al-Hawa neighborhood, southwest of Gaza City. The attack killed six Palestinians and injured 15 others.

Regarding this incident, (N.M.) stated:

“I was returning from work in the Al-Deir area towards Gaza City. When I reached the vicinity of Carrefour Mall in Tal Al-Hawa neighborhood, a very powerful explosion occurred in front of me. Once the dust had settled, I saw a vehicle towing a trailer that had been hit in the attack. A large number of injured and killed people were scattered around it, and there was a great deal of blood on the ground. I saw several people with severe injuries, while some of the injured were screaming and calling for help. At that moment, I was afraid to approach the site and try to rescue the injured, fearing that another attack might follow, particularly as such attacks have been repeated in recent times. After an ambulance arrived and rescue teams began evacuating the injured and attending to the victims, the scale of the tragedy became even clearer. I saw charred bodies, while others had lost parts of their bodies, including bodies without heads, alongside severe injuries and horrific and painful scenes that are difficult to describe.”

According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, a total of 16 Palestinians were killed and 50 injured and brought to hospitals in the Gaza Strip over the past 24 hours. The number of Palestinians killed has risen to 1,438 and those injured to 5,045 since the signing of the ceasefire agreement in Sharm El-Sheikh and its entry into force on 11 October 2025.

The Health Cluster reports that life-threatening gaps persist in specialized cancer treatment, including the lack of essential chemotherapy and radiotherapy supplies, while diagnostic services are being severely affected by shortages of generator engine oil, spare parts and other consumables. At the Al-Ahli Hospital, mammography and CT services have been suspended, leaving Gaza city without extremely limited diagnostic services for breast cancer. While Al Quds Palestinian Red Crescent continues to provide mammography services, its capacity remains limited.

Meanwhile, scarcity of medical-grade sodium bicarbonate and dialysis cartridges continue to threaten the continuity of life-saving hemodialysis services, while patients with Type 1 diabetes are facing severe deficiencies of insulin analogues, increasing the risk of poor glycaemic control and acute complications, highlighting the urgent need for sustained provision of essential renal and diabetes commodities.[1]

Al Mezan Center for Human Rights strongly condemns the escalating Israeli crimes, including the continued targeting of civilians and the killing and injuring of civilians, the targeting of civilian properties and infrastructure throughout the Gaza Strip, and the continued indiscriminate firing at civilians and their properties. These practices are further deepening the humanitarian crisis and amount to collective punishment, while forming part of the ongoing genocide perpetrated by the Israeli occupation forces through, among other measures, the continued obstruction of humanitarian assistance, particularly medical equipment, medicines, fuel, engine oil, and spare parts.

The continued attacks against civilians and the deliberate deprivation of essential supplies further violate the protection afforded to civilians under international humanitarian law and underscore the urgent need to ensure accountability for violations and grave breaches committed in the Gaza Strip. The occupying power is legally obligated to respect and ensure respect for the rules of international humanitarian law and to protect civilians and other protected persons during armed conflict and occupation.

Al Mezan therefore calls on the international community to take urgent and effective action to halt the ongoing and escalating massacres, exert meaningful pressure on the Israeli occupation forces to end the crime of genocide, facilitate the immediate and unhindered entry of humanitarian assistance, fuel, and medical equipment, and ensure effective protection for civilians who continue to be subjected to grave violations in the Gaza Strip in full view of the international community for the third consecutive year.
