PNGO concludes series of training workshops on enhancing NGOs role to participate effectively in Gaza reconstruction

Palestinian NGOs Network, on Monday, concluded six training workshops in media and advocacy. The training workshops were implemented as a part of a project entitled, "Active Participation of the Civil Society in Gaza Reconstruction Process" for the Civil Society Programme CSP Implemnted by (GIZ on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ)


The project aimed at increasing the participation of each civil society and private sector organizations as well as municipalities in the reconstruction of war-torn Gaza Strip. It also aimed at integrating the visions of the various sectors of the Palestinian civil society organizations in Gaza's reconstruction plan. These various sectors include education, health, women sectors as well as rehabilitation, youth and agricultural sectors.


The project was implemented in several phases; the first phase included a training of 60 participants including employees of NGOs, private sector organizations, and municipalities. They were divided into three groups according to geographical and sectoral distribution.


The workshops dealt with the topics of advocacy, media and media campaigns, and it included a range of meaningful activities. The workshop addressed issues dealing with the reality of the Palestinian society; that would be raised and addressed in advocacy and media campaigns.


Amjad Shawa, director of the Palestinian NGO's Network, said ''the training workshops conducted within the context of efforts exerted by the Palestinian NGO's Network to strengthen the role of the civil society organizations to participate actively in the reconstruction process and influence it."


Shawa pointed out that the project aimed at improving the quality, impact, sustainability of advocacy and lobbying of the Palestinian NGOs, municipalities and private sector, to positively affect the quality and the ability of the programs offered by these organizations, and enhance mutual coordination and cooperation in the Gaza reconstruction issues.


The participants stressed on the importance to address the issues of lobbying, advocacy and media to strengthen and promote the role of the Palestinian civil society organizations.


They also stressed need to mainstream such training workshops on a broader segment of employees, due these workshops focused on enhancing the spirit of active participation, and providing the participants with expertise, knowledge and skills.


According to the participants, such workshops are need due they focus on introducing the participants to lobbying, advocacy and media campaigns relevant to each of NGO's sectors, and focus participation of the organizations actively in the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip.
