PNGO launches series of training workshops on strengthening monitoring and evaluation in Palestinian NGO's

Palestinian NGO's Network (PNGO) concluded on Monday first training workshop on strengthening monitoring and evaluation in Palestinian NGO's. The workshop conducted as a part of project “Enhance Civil Society Capacity to Work for Democratic Independence in Palestine” in partnership with Norwegian People's Aid (NPA) in Al Mathaf Hotel in Gaza.


The training targeted 80 participants of Palestinian NGO's employees mainly the projects managers and coordinators who were divided into four training groups of 20 participants. The participants received 10 training hours in two days.


The training workshop tackled concepts such as Definition of the project, relationship between project's design, implementation and monitoring, definition of monitoring, definition of evaluation, comparison between monitoring and evaluation in addition to other topics.



The training workshop was opened with a speech delivered by the director of the Palestinian NGO's Network (PNGO) Amjad Shawa who explained that this workshop is one of the series of the training workshops to be held on strengthening monitoring and evaluation in the NGOs that are consistent with the project objectives of strengthening democracy and building the capacities of CSOs.


Shawa pointed out that the training workshop is the first within four workshops aiming at improving the abilities of the participants to monitor and management the projects implemented by their  organizations, by exchanging knowledge and experiences, due monitoring and evaluation are essential to promote good governance and transparency.



Alaa Al-Ghalayini, workshop trainer stated that the goal of the training is to develop and strengthen the participants' capacities in the skills of monitoring and evaluation; which will positively reflect on the NGOs work.


He explained that the training workshop is an important step forward to benefit the participants to develop the projects' system and apply it in the trainers' organizations where they work, as strengthening monitoring and evaluation needs an effort by NGOs.


Ghalayini pointed out that the objectives of the training workshops revolve around six-steps monitoring and evaluation system, identifying key evaluation elements, development of follow-up plans for the participants' projects and description of the questions about key evaluation elements, and the various types of evaluation.


The participants expressed that the training workshop expanded their knowledge on mechanism of monitoring and evaluation related to the concept, plan and implementation, logical intervention: concept, elements and purpose, as well as concepts related to the project's lifecycle. The training distinguished by the possibility to link the theoretical aspect with the practical aspect that increase knowledge and improve skills.
