THE JOB
Under the overall management of the Project Manager, and the direct supervision of the Reconstruction Technical Advisor (TA), the Reconstruction Assistant will be responsible for ensuring to ensure that construction work meets the required national and HI accessibility standards.

Main tasks will include:
Responsibility 1: Support the technical implementation and knowledge management of projects
Aim: Ensure the development and implementation of technical reconstruction framework for assigned project to ensure it meets required standards in line with the HIs frameworks.

Undertake overall assessment of environment to be built in project target areas in close collaboration with the partners, reconstruction stakeholders and persons with disabilities of different impairments.
Contribute to the development of and updating of available practical and user friendly tools for accessibility audits.
Contribute to the development of and adaptation of training curriculum and design session plan related to accessibility, universal design and maintenance of accessible premises.
Train persons with disabilities about accessibility concepts in order to involve them in accessibility assessments.
Facilitate theoretical and practical training sessions for reconstruction stakeholders about physical accessibility concepts.
Undertake technical studies for physical environment accessibility building for the beneficiary organisations and reconstruction stakeholders.
Design/draw appropriate technical plans of physical accessibility according to HI or universal standard and support partners/reconstruction stakeholders for budgeting the work to be undertaken.
Organize bidding process and supervise the work undertaken by the companies contracted for accessibility building up to provisory and final reception.
Assess beneficiary organisations user satisfaction with regard to physical accessibility of the premises.

Responsibility 2: Provide support for quality project development , monitoring and evaluation.
Aim: Ensure project is run according to HI and donor technical requirements against the defined objectives and indicators

- Produce and submit monthly work-plan and reports in timely basis to the Project Manager.
- Provide all information for the definition of the monthly cash and budget forecast
- Participate in regular team meetings to discuss problems faced in the field and seek appropriate solutions
- Participate in case study design and in project documentation as well as sharing knowledge and experiences among the project team
- Report on outputs progress to the project team members and related partners through regular meeting
- Support the identification of potential opportunities for the development of future projects in line with your specialty

Responsibility 3: Assist Project Manager in internal and external coordination
Aim: Ensure that HI is well respresented among other stakeholders and inclusion of persons with disabilities is promoted in the humanitarian agenda

- Represent Project Managers towards the partner and other stakeholders as maybe delegated.
- Participate in project related clusters and sub-clusters, prepare and share minutes as requested by PM.
- Commit to and ensure adherence to HI visibility procedures during representation.

Maintain a good relationship with partners in collaboration with and support from the PM.

THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE
- University degree in the field of engineeringdisability or rehabilitation
- Minimum of at least 3 years of experience in construction/rehabilitation including design of plans & budgeting and construction work supervision
- Fluency in the English language
- Motivation for promoting universal design and physical environment accessibility for people with mobility limitations
- Minimum of 2 years practical experience in working with vulnerable group
- Work in disability sector strongly recommended
- Demonstrated ability to work in a multi-cultural teams
- Must have a valid driving Licence

Initial contract will be for a period of one year and the position is based in Gaza.
